1. About Trial Version
--------------------------------
1.1 Is it free to download the trial version?
Yes, it is free to download and try it.
1.2 What is the difference between the trial and the full version?
You can sample most of the functions of CGillust with the trial version.
When you use the demo version, you can save your work as an event file,
but cannot save it as a jpg/bmp/oci(CGillust original type) file. Plus, you
cannot re-save the event file.
The trial version can be distinguished by the word "DEMO" on the
title bar.
1.3 Is there a expiration date for the trial version?
No! Please try it as long as you want.
1.4 Can I upload my work on this website to share with other people even with
the trial version?
Yes, you can. When you finish your work, choose "save" from "Event" menu
to save it as an event file. And after that, choose "Upload" from
the "Event" menu.
Please note that the trial version doesn't allow you to re-save your event
file.
--------------------------------
2. About Purchasing/Serial Key
--------------------------------
2.1 How can I purchase CGillust? Can I download it to buy?
We don't sell CGillust by download. Go to the "how
to purchase" page and follow the instructions.
2.2 Can I use my credit card to buy CGillust?
Yes, you can. Our credit card payment procedure uses a secured site provided
by WorldPay, so DELETER doesn't collect any of your credit card information.
We accept Master card or Visa for the payment.
2.3 What is the serial key?
It is the number to activate the program after the installation. When you first
run the software, a dialog box
appears so that you can enter your serial number. Please type it precisely
because it is case sensitive.
2.4 Can I install it on other computers as well?
The license for CGillust is issued to the individual purchaser.
You can install it on other computers as long as you use it on one computer
at a time.
However, you must have separate serial keys when other people use copies on
other computers.

3.1 There is software called "OpenCanvas".
DELETER has a license to sell OpenCanvas as DELETER CG illust, so CG illust
version 2 is identical to OpenCanvas version 2. However, beginning with version
3, these software applications will be different. CG illust version 3 will have
the same upgrade as what OpenCanvas version 3 did, but it will have a different
file extension to save files, so they are no longer the same software. (Update
05/11/2004)
3.2 Is it ok to upload my image drawn by OpenCanvas to this web site?
At this moment, we do not consider differences between images by OpenCanvas
and CGillust.
We appreciate all images uploaded to our site.

4.1 I cannot save files.
If you cannot choose "save" nor "save as" from the "File" menu,
you are using the trial version.
4.2 I get an error when saving a file as oci.
In most cases this is caused by shortage of disk space.
Please contact us when this is no the case.
4.3 I want to change the quality of my JPEG file
before saving it.
From "File" menu, choose "Preference". You can slide "JPEG
Saving Quality to change its quality
for your preference.

5. About Event Files/Uploading your work to CGillust web site
-------------------------------
5.1 How does "Save with Preservation" work?
When you save an event file with "Save with Preservation" from the "Event" menu,
another person has
the ability to download it but will not be able to tamper with the image itself.
5.2 How can I upload my work to this web site?
Please e-mail us and attach your work, so that we can upload it immediately.
We are waiting for your work!!
------------------------------
------------------------------
6.1 What is a normal layer?
When a normal layer is used the color of the top layer looks like it is painted
on top of the bottom layer.
When a color is repeatedly put on top, the color of the lower layer is covered.
This mode is usually used for correction of the bottom layer.
6.2 What is a multiple layer?
When you use the multiple layer mode, the color looks like cellophane piled
one on top of the other.
6.3 What is an addition layer?
Colors painted on top are added to the color of the bottom layer.
Therefore, the color becomes a little lighter, even if a dark color (close
to 0) is used.
It becomes white when a light color (close to 255) is painted.
It is often used for expressing lights or highlights.
6.4 What is a subtraction layer?
Colors are subtracted from the color of the bottom layer.
It gets a little darker when the dark color, which is close to 0, is painted.
It gets much darker when the light color, which is close to 255, is painted.
When a color except for gray (achromatic color) is used, colors sometimes change
to unexpected colors.
This layer is pretty difficult to use effectively.
6.5 I have drawn an outline on a normal layer, but something looks strange.
You should not use white color for erasing outline when it is drawn on a transparent
normal layer.
In this case painting white color means that you are actually drawing white
line.
Be sure to use the Eraser instead.
6.6 How can I use "MergeDown" effectively?
Layers need to be the same kinds to be combined.
CGillust doesn't support the combination of the layers of different modes.
Combinations of normal/multiple and addition/subtraction don't work together.
6.7 What do you use "Preserve transparency" for?
Make a new normal layer and paint the part you want to paint at first.
Use "Preserve Transparency", and then you can paint only the part
you have painted.
By repeating this operation you get the same effect as using a mask because
each part is separated into layers.
-------------------------------
--------------------------------
7.1 What is a Selection?
When you make a selection, it is surrounded by the moving dotted line.
You can put colors on this area surrounded by the line.
It is good idea to use it like a masking sheet.
7.2 I want to save my selection.
After you make a selection, from the Selection Window (if you don't have it
on your display, click "View" menu, choose
"
Show Selection"), click "Selection" and then choose "New
Selection". Mask2 will be added. Your selection is saved on Mask1.
Whenever you want to use the selection, click "Mask1", the selection
appears.
7.3 How can I remove the selection displayed?
From "Select Menu" choose "Visible or Invisible". If it
is not checked in the select menu, "The march of the ants" is not
indicated even when the selection is still effective.
7.4 I want to combine two saved selections.
If you want to merge Mask1 to Mask2 in your Selection window, drag the preview
of Mask1 and drop it on the preview of Mask2.
choose "Add Send To.." to combine. The combined image will appear
in the workspace.
7.5 I want to move selected images to another layer.
Make a selection, and from "Select" menu, choose "Separate".
You will see a new layer in your Layer window. Then choose the Move tool to
move your image.
-----------------------------
-----------------------------
8.1 I want to save/load a palette.
Right click on the color window and execute from the menu.
8.2 I want to change the size of the color palette.
Right click on the color window and change "Display Option" in the
menu.
8.3 I want to edit the contents of the palette.
When you change a color which already exists:
Shift+left click For substituting colors
Ctrl+left click For deleting color
Shift+Ctrl+left click For adding color
-----------------------------
-----------------------------
9.1 When an image is copied on to other software using clipboard it becomes
distorted.
Use "CopyAll" when you want to copy an image to another application.
9.2 When a range is chosen with Magic Wand, how can I prevent a gap between
outlines?
A gap is reduced when Anti-alias is activated by double-clicking on the Magic
Wand tool in the Tool bar.
9.3 I want to draw circles and squares.
When you want to draw circles/squares with the oval/rectangle drawing tool,
press Ctrl key when dragging the figure.
9.4 All tool windows are hidden behind the main window!
Sometimes all tool windows suddenly disappear behind the main window.
Press the TAB key (indication of all tool windows) twice to solve this problem.
9.5 I cannot make font vertical (horizontal)!
You can select "vertical font" and "horizontal font" from
the Font Window.
Font name starting with "@" is "vertical font".
9.6 There is no Execute button on Font Window!
Is the display setting of Windows "Large Font"
You need to set it to "Normal Font", otherwise some portions are
not displayed in dialog boxes.
You can execute by pressing Alt+O.
---------------------------
---------------------------
10.1 Which Windows OS is preferred?
When only a little picture is drawn, any version of Windows is OK.
When a big picture is drawn, OSs with good memory management system is suitable
such as WindowsNT/2000/XP.
10.2 Why do I need to be careful when drawing a big picture?
You need a sufficient memory space because a large amount of memory is necessary
to draw a big picture. OSs with good memory management system's are suitable
such as WindowsNT/2000/XP.
The speed of Windows95/98/Me gets slower compared with NT.
For NT, secure enough swap files. When commitment size is not enough, a hindrance
occurs in the movement.
10.3 Which existing tablets can I use with CGillust? (updated
07/23/03)
As of June, 2003, we support DELETER XP-PEN and WACOM tablets. We
are selling DELETER XP-PEN through DELETER.COM
online store.
10.4 Tablet does not move properly.
When the pen is shifted, see if there are any problems with mapping setting
of tablet. You can change the mapping setting from "Tablet" in
control panel.
If the pen does not move properly, take off all the resident programs. Some
resident programs interfere with the tablet.
10.5 Brush Pressure suddenly is not effective!
After using scanner and printer, the brush pressure of the tablet sometimes
becomes ineffective
It can be recovered by focusing on an application other than CGillust and then
focus on CGillust.
